HATS

Our hats are made by The Zenú or Sinú Tribe.

To the northwest of the country, among the lush and magical savannas of the Colombian Caribbean, lie the departments of Sucre and Córdoba. Here, weaving caña flecha is a tradition passed down from generation to generation, reflecting the culture and daily life of the Zenú people, known as: The sons of the caña flecha.

The transmission of this craft has been so effective that the majority of people in the community know how to weave the traditional hat, involving almost the entire community in the different stages of its production.

They have organized themselves and implemented quality control mechanisms for their products, and structured their value chain: one person plants the caña flecha, another harvests it, another dyes it, another weaves it, another approves it, and a final person manages its sale.

As for the making of the vueltiao hat, after making the braids that can have 11, 15, 19, 21, and up to 31 pairs of caña flecha ripias, they are joined with a sewing machine. During this process, the work of the seamstresses is essential to ensure that the colors, patterns, and shape of the hat match in their place.”

AGUA SALÁ takes pride in being part of this process by offering a wide range of vibrant, bold, and perfect colors and styles to match with your swimsuit or any outfit for your day in the sun.

This tradition is not only a means of keeping Zenú culture alive, but also a source of income for many families in the region. Objects made of caña flecha are highly valued both locally, nationally and internationally, and have become a symbol of Colombian craftsmanship.
